Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia - Saturday, August 4, 2001

Starting off the second day of the conference was a workshop by Helen and me! It was a lot of fun for me, but I don't know about Helen; she was so edgy beforehand and went up onstage before the conference started just to see what it was like ahead of time. When her actual time came, she was great!...and short. Since we had forty minutes and less than ten had been burned so far, I expanded endlessly on every single verse, which was hard but quite enjoyable. I like doing workshops. Helen and I should do another one sometime.

While the conference was going on, it rained cats and dogs for a good bit of time, so when we left, the lumpy streets were covered with puddles and pools of water. We went to the Hotel Ulaanbaatar to eat, but their business was faring incredibly well, unlike last year's dying out trickle of customers. Because the waiting time was so long, we went out to buy some sandwiches instead.

On this day we met Peter again, the guy whose English was good, whose guitar riffing skills were good, and whose head was in the box last year at the retreat. He had just come back from his wedding! And if that wasn't enough, we also met again with Tulga and Tseegi, who had married two months ago and were now expecting a child! WOW! I met this other guy whose English was REALLY good; he was an acrobat who worked at a circus and traveled all over the place, which might explain his English skills. Today we also got together and, by Pastor Liu's request the previous night, we sang "Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble?" Urgh, my keyboard skills were simply rotten that day. At the evening section, the Decision Time team performed their drama, and it was executed beautifully, although not without the expected hitch (a small mishap with the blood). The acting was great, though.

I will tell you something amazing that happened on this day. At the end of the meeting, Pastor Batbold went up and said some stuff in Mongolian. As he did he waved his hands all around and made motions with his arms to stand up, and many people did. I was sitting next to Saruul, and I asked, "Are these the new people?" And she said, "No, they are accepting Jesus." Wowzer! It turned out to be fifteen people; they just stood up, repeated the prayer after Batbold, everything. That was amazing. And similar things happened every time Batbold asked if anyone wanted to be saved.

That's Helen and me doing our workshop on daily devotions! The fellow on the right is a pastor and a very humorous translator as well.
Wow! It's Tulga and Tseegi, except now, they're married and expecting! Why does all the good stuff happen when we're not there?
Wayne and Leon are speaking on their workshop here. For some reason the camera liked to focus on the foreground instead of the background.
Haha! This picture is blurry because I moved, but you can see Pastor Ricky using Dosho and Tuul for Samson and Delilah.
It only rained once while we were there, but it was a great rain! Now the streets are all puddly and wet and everything is nice and rained out!

This the Mongolian capitol building. Unlike the White House, there are no fences, guards, bustling politicians, shady dealings, or anything. And it isn't white.
